Water spots on ceramic coatings can quickly turn from a minor annoyance to a major problem if left untreated. Especially given the water-beading effect ceramic coatings are  famed for, it's crucial to address these spots promptly.

Most of the water we encounter isn't purely distilled; it contains minerals. When water droplets dry on your car, they leave these minerals behind. Over time, these deposits, essentially minuscule rock particles, can embed themselves into your car's clear coat or ceramic coating.

Types of Water Spots

Broadly, water  spots can be categorized into:

•  Mild or Soft Water Spots: Easily removable with basic treatments.
•  Stubborn or Hard Water Spots: Require more intensive treatments.

The mineral concentration in water can range from distilled (minimal minerals) to hard (high mineral content). Factors like geographical location, water source, and plumbing  can influence this.

Effective Water Spot Removal Methods

•  White Vinegar & Water Solution: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water. When applied, the acid in the vinegar helps dissolve mineral deposits. Spray the mixture on affected areas, wait for up to a minute, then rinse and dry.
  Note: Avoid using this method in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces.
•  Specially Designed Chemicals: While there are various products available, here's Jimbo's favorite , Wheel acid, which stands out for its effectiveness. Apply with a microfiber towel, then rinse and dry.
•  100% Undiluted White Vinegar:  A more aggressive approach. Always wear gloves and ensure proper ventilation.
•  Clay Bar: For stubborn spots, a clay bar can work wonders, but might strip the ceramic coating. Always use with appropriate lubrication. 
• Machine Polishing:  A last resort for persistent spots. Seek professional guidance if unfamiliar with the process.

Prevention is Better than Cure

Always remember, prevention is key. Ensure that no water beads remain on your car's surface, especially if it's ceramic coated. Consider using tools like leaf blowers for effective and gentle water removal.
